A new era of transparency in fashion and textiles.
In July 2024 the European Commission introduced the Digital Product Passport (DPP) as part of its new green regulation. It starts with the fashion, textile and footwear sectors and becomes mandatory between 2026 and 2027.

Every product sold in the EU will soon carry a digital profile showing information such as:

  • ✓Where it was made
  • ✓What it's made of
  • ✓Its environmental impact
  • ✓How it can be reused or repaired

To support this, GS1 is launching the Sunrise 2027 initiative: traditional barcodes will be replaced with smarter 2D QR codes, so anyone can scan a label and instantly see detailed product information.

For brands this is more than a legal requirement. It is a chance to build trust, promote sustainability and offer full transparency to customers.
